Design and Control of Compostability in Synthetic Biopolyesters

The aerobic composting and anaerobic digestion of plastics is a promising route to recovering the multidimensional value from biodegradable single-use plastics. At present, collection, separation, management plastic waste are extremely challenging, majority these still end up in landfills or incineration facilities. This because not all can be treated using organic options (composting). In addition, end-users at domestic industrial level often unaware compostability potential plastics, which results mismanagement types plastic. A greater understanding will generate required knowledge base for interventions that support their market penetration, use, proper management. this review, we clarify concepts biodegradability bioplastics, particular commercial synthetic biopolyesters, have increasing technical economic importance, discuss how macromolecular design, blending, additives used modify compostability. Future trends on uptake compostable bioplastics also discussed.
